FAQ's

Which type of retirement plans do you work with?
Real401(k)Advice.com is designed to work with 401(k)s, 403(b)s, TSA, 457 or TSP plans, the Federal Thrift Savings Plan and virtually any other deferred asset employee retirement plans. We also advise plans with company stock as an investment option.

How much does the service cost?
Our fees are spelled out in detail in our Advisory Agreement. Those fees are based on a percentage of the value of your 401(k) balance at the time of enrollment and are adjusted annually.  We also take into consideration whether your plan offers a self directed brokerage account.  That option allows you the ability to choose from an expanded list of mutual funds or virtually any marketable security.  This is typically offered by Schwab, Fidelity, or TDAmeritrade.

For a basic fixed menu of fund choices, our annualized fee is 0.75% of your account balance on the date you enroll. If you have a self directed brokerage option available, the annualized fee is 1.00% of the account value. There is a $50 per month minimum charge. When your account value is verified, the annual fee is calculated and divided by twelve.  You are notified of the monthly fee that will be charged to your registered credit card.

How can I pay for your services?
We accept payments from all major credit cards. If you have a self-directed brokerage option available to you, we can arrange to have your 401(k) account billed quarterly for our fees so that you are able pay with pre-tax dollars. Since this involves some additional documentation, please contact us directly to have this option established.

What is your process for making my recommended investment allocation?
We employ an investment strategy that looks for those investment ideas available in your plan that have the greatest relative chance of outperforming the other investment choices. We rebalance when it’s appropriate, and preservation of our clients’ capital is foremost in our approach; thus, we focus on accumulating wealth only when opportunities are optimal.

Who makes investment changes in my account?
Normally you do. We provide the advice and it is your responsibility to make the necessary changes. If you prefer that we have the discretion to make the changes for you, please contact us directly to discuss this option. Since this requires additional time and resources, the fees for this service are higher.

My company has changed our plan and the investment choices. How do I update my investment choices?
If you notify us that a change has taken place, we will log in to your account and download the new menu of fund choices and make the necessary changes. You will then receive an email showing the updated choices and your new allocation.

How do I provide my investment choices to you if my plan is not on your list of plans?
We are looking for the complete menu of fund choices available to you. You can send us a copy of the list or provide us your log-in information and we will obtain the list from your plan’s website. If you become a client, the log in information will be required.

Can you help consolidate old plans from former employers?
Yes. You may be eligible to rollover the old retirement plan(s) to your new employer's retirement plan. Consult your current plan administrator to see if this is permitted. If not, ask us how we can help you rollover the old plan(s) to a self-directed IRA.

I like the way you have managed my 401(k). Can you handle my other investment money too?
Certainly! Real401kAdvice.com, through the advisory firm Pelleton Capital Management, Ltd. can provide professional management and advice for all your investment accounts whether they are other retirement accounts or taxable accounts.

How often do you look at my account?
We monitor the investments every day that the markets are open and alerts are set to notify us if any major changes are taking place or if anything important needs to be reviewed. When a change is needed, you will receive an email notification indicating what your new allocation should be.

How often will I receive an email alert regarding changes?
Frequency of contact is dictated by the changes in the investment markets. In a typical year you might receive three or four changes. In 2008 there would have been many more. We will continue to keep you informed about activities in the investment world even when no changes are necessary.
